River Parishes

The parishes along the Mississippi River between Baton Rouge and New Orleans are called the German Coast and the Acadian Coast, reflecting the ethnicity of the area’s first settlers.  The Germans were there first, many years before the Acadians started arriving in the late 1760’s.  They arrived en masses in 1785.

Les Voyageurs is the quarterly publication of the German-Acadian Coast Historical and Genealogy Society. It is filled with useful information:  articles on the Savoie, Bourgeois, Granger, Perilloux, Frederich, Wichner, Madere, Cresman, Lasseigne, Hymel and Bergeron families, plus other articles relating to local records.
