Mission Complete (08-04-2011)
Four years ago Jake McKeithen had a vision, but not much else. That vision became a labor of love and an obsession and on Monday morning it became a reality when the Albritton-Carter Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5442 was officially christened.
The sparkling new 2,800 square-foot building is a fitting and needed post for our war veterans of Union Parish.
The building is a testament to McKeithen’s dogged determination to see the project through. But even more than that, the construction of this building is also a tribute to the generosity of the Union Parish people and business community, which volunteered, donated and helped raise money to provide a fitting meeting place for our veterans.
Hill Oil, Claiborne Electric, Johnny Dollar, Karl Malone, Marion State Bank, Jayne Green, the local Boy Scouts, Thomas Sevin, the Crow family and Dennis Burns of Dubach were among the many who made the $170,000 Post off Wards Chapel Road a reality.
Monday was a proud moment for McKeithen, a Vietnam War veteran as well as the entire Union Parish community.
For the entire community to come together for such a worthy cause and make it happen is something we should all be proud of.
