Ray Alexander, president of the Union Parish Library Board, announces the resignation of Mrs. Agnes Harris as Union Parish Librarian. In making the announcement, Mr. Alexander stated that due to family obligations and responsibilities Mrs. Harris feels that she must relinquish her duties as administrative librarian. He also said that the Board has accepted her resignation. Speaking for the library board, Mr. Alexander praised Mrs. Harris highly for the work she has done in administering the Union Parish Library and in promoting all libraries, not only in Union Parish but state-wide as well.
Since Mrs. Harris joined the library staff in 1957 the library has continued to make progress in every prospect. In 1964, the library received the Modisette Award at the Louisiana Library Association Convention in Shreveport, as the public library in Louisiana showing the most progress over its own previous record.
At present, Mrs. Harris is serving as chairman of the Standards Implementation Committee for Public Libraries in Louisiana and also, as chairman of the North East Louisiana Regional Library Association. The latter organization will hold its annual meeting in Farmerville in May.
Succeeding Mrs. Harris as librarian, will be Miss Vivian Holder, whose parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Holder, reside in the Pisgah community near Bernice. Miss Holder is now employed as administrative librarian in Caldwell Parish. After completing a six-week tour of duty with Library U.S. A. at the World’s Fair in New York, Miss Holder will return to Louisiana to assume the duties of Union Parish Librarian, June 1, according to Mr. Alexander.
