Fred Dawson Signs Contract With New York Yankees

Fred Dawson, senior at Henderson State Teachers College recently signed a bonus contract with the New York Yankees and will report this weekend to Greensboro, N.C. Willis Hudlin of Little Rock represented the Yankees in the negotiations.

Dawson is a three-sport letterman at Henderson, lettering in football, baseball and track. He was named to both the 1964 and 1965 All-AIC baseball teams and the 1964 All -AIC football team.

An outfielder for the 1965 SIC Champions, Dawson finished the season with a .403 batting average, had five home runs, 11 doubles and 12 stolen bases. He is rated be HSTC coach, Clyde Berry, Jr. as one of the most aggressive players Henderson has ever had with the ability to make the grade in the major league.

Dawson is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Garland Dawson of Bernice, La.
