Mose Wilson

The Gazette
September 30, 1896

Next Friday Mose Wilson will suffer the death penalty for the horrible butchery of Tom and Caroline Franklin, committed last April. He will be executed within the jail walls, where the scaffold is now being erected.

A Gazette representative called at the jail Monday to get a statement from the condemned man. At first he denied, the commission of the deed, but upon being told that it was better to tell the plain truth, as falsehoods now would do him no good, he asked for pencil and paper, which we gave him, and he promised a written statement.

Tuesday morning we returned to the jail and Wilson handed us a written statement, the substance of which is a confession of the crime; that he realizes his awful doom; that it is just, and that he expects to go to Heaven.
