Drowning Near Alabama Landing

The Gazette
March 29, 1899

It is supposed that two young white men name John Johnson and Douglas Hunter were drowned in the Ouachita river near Alabama Landing on the 18th or 19th inst. On the former date the parties left home to go hunting across the river, and despite the fact that their friends have made diligent search for them, no trace of the missing men has been gained. The skiff in which they are supposed to have attempted to cross the river was found capsized. Search for the bodies is yet being made.
