Mr. Will Smith, a farmer residing near Vienna, Lincoln Parish, was shot and killed within a few steps of his gate one day during the past week. Mr. Smith had spent the night at the home of his mother, who resided near him, and returning home early in the morning was shot as above stated near his gate, the ball penetrating the forehead. The shooting was done by Dr. J. R. Moore, who resides in that vicinity. Moore has surrendered to Sheriff Bond. He states that he shot Smith in self defense. He says that instead of waiting near Smith’s house to kill him, the latter knowing Moore would come by to visit a patient waylaid him. The Doctor claims that there were two shots fired. Both Moore and Smith are well known in the Shiloh section of this parish. The former was reared there and has many relations in that vicinity.
