Friday morning Constable Gresham, of Marion ward, brought to the jail a negro boy named Jim Thomas, aged 17 years, who is charged with killing a 14 year old, negro lad named Jim Lee. The two boys were engaged in a scuffle, during which Thomas kicked Lee in the side. Lee complained of being hurt and the scuffle ended. He afterward mounted a mule and rode away, but did not get very far before he had to dismount, and died a few moments thereafter. Doubtless the boy’s spleen was bursted from the kick. So far as is known the two boys were on perfectly friendly terms, and it is generally supposed that the killing was purely accidental. The arrest was made on a affidavit of the dead lad’s father.
