Pistol Shots

The Gazette
February 7, 1900

Last Saturday evening, an hour before night, three pistol shots were fired near the principal part of town. It was evidently done out of mischief and meanness, pure and simple; just because it was contrary to the town laws. This lawless set in itself is small, but the motive behind it is far reaching and deserves the heaviest penalty the law will warrant. When boys come to town, get drunk and fire off their pistols just to frighten ladies and disturb the peace of our citizens, they should be harshly dealt with by the state and city authorities. We are told that another party fired off his pistol on the public highway just in front of a lady and gentleman who were driving along the road, after being requested not to do so. The grand jury should investigate such matters.
