Suspect Killed in Junction City

The Gazette
August 22, 1900

Mr. J. E. Smith informs us that a negro named Lee Moore was killed on the suburbs of Junction City last Sunday. The darkey had been arrested on charge of procuring goods under false pretenses, and was in custody of Deputy Marshal Burke and Justice Walter Marcus. Passing his house, Moore asked permission to stop in and get a drink of water; but instead of merely getting water, he procured a pistol and opened fire on the officers. They responded in like manner, with the result that there was a dead negro in the neighborhood.
