Mule Shot

The Gazette
April 3, 1901

While returning home form the school exercises at Holmesville Friday night some boys tanked up with liquor and decorated with deadly pistols, began shooting on the public highway. In the fusillade a fine mule belonging to Mr. Asa McFarland was seriously shot in the neck, and at last accounts it was feared the animal would die. Pistol toting is bad enough, wanton and malicious shooting on the public highway to frighten ladies and children is worse, but the reckless killing of  a fine mule is worst of all. Here’s a case for the grand jury, and all the participants should be popped pretty heavily.
