The Gazette
July 31, 1901

Deputy Sheriff J. W. Taylor, returned home Monday night from Camden, Ark., where he had gone in search of Tom Dawson who was charged with stealing Mr. W. S. Pearson’s horse, the same being stolen from Mr. M. B. Shultz’ lot in this place on the 13th instant. On arriving in Camden Mr. Taylor found Dawson in jail at that place under charge of grand larceny committed in Arkansas, and on account of this was not allowed to bring Dawson back. Dawson confessed to stealing Mr. Pearson’s horse, and told where the horse could be found. Upon this information, Mr. Pearson found his horse and brought it home. Mr. Taylor also stated that the District Attorney of Camden, promised to get as short sentence as possible for Dawson in order that he may be turned over to our authorities which will not be sooner than one year.
