I felt as if I might have stuck my neck out when I wrote the article on “Save That Tree”, but I thought it might be worth it.
So I thought – “Well I’ve gone this far so let’s see what else I can do.” So I called Dr. Norris’s daughter, Mary Inez Norris Bennett at Spearsville. She had not read the article but when I told her how beautiful the tree was, and would like to save it; she immediately told me that tree would never be cut. As we talked I found out she loved trees as much as I did. I also found out why the tree was so beautiful – they have been pruning it and caring for it. She assured me that tree would “stay put”.
We also reminisced about when I carried some of Frank Wilson’s band students to Monroe for a parade and we stopped to get a hamburger and was late getting back to school even though I drove 80 mph. I can pass that tree and know that it will not be cut.
Thanks, Mary Inez!
