Marion, La.–Funeral services for J. A. (Dutch) Everett, 38, of Marion, who met instant death about 3 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, May 21, when struck by a log truck just out of town on the Huttig highway, were held Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the Marion Methodist church conducted by the Rev. W. O. Byrd, pastor.
Interment followed in Concord cemetery, near Marion, under direction of Kilpatrick funeral home.
The deceased was a son of the late J. Davis Everett and had resided at Marion during his entire life.
Mr. Everett had been married exactly one month and one day to the former Miss Minnie Mae Brown.
Besides his wife he is survived by his mother, Mrs. C. O. Everett of Marion; one sister, Mrs. Doret Price; four aunts, Mrs. Hattie Thompson, of Marion; Mrs. Jennie W. Jones, of Dallas, Texas; Mrs. J. W. Black, of Houston, Texas; and Mrs. Minnie Malone, of Commerce, Texas.
The accident occurred near the town limits as the deceased drove in from a side road and headed from an angle into a log truck going north which was driven by a negro. The crash threw Everett from his car and either the car which he was driving or the truck ran over his body, crushing the victim into instant death.
Dr. J. G. Taylor, parish Coroner, pronounced the death an unavoidable accident.
