Salley Grocer Co. was organized in 1934 but did not open until the first part of 1935.
Organized on an extremely small scale for business has grown until today it is one of the largest wholesale grocery companies in North Louisiana.
The present warehouse was built when the business was organized. It had 3,200 square feet of floor space, today it has 35,000 square feet of space.
The business began with one salesman and a few other employees. Today it employs about 40 people, seven of whom are salesmen.
The business is owned jointly by C. T. Salley, Jack Salley and Van Salley, all of Bernice.
Today the organization maintains its own garage to service its 14 trucks. It is estimated that the company uses around 12,000 gallons of gasoline per month.
Since the beginning of this year added space has totaled 10,000 square feet in two additions.
The business is operated on a basis of volume, quick turnovers, discounts on bills and cash.
It is one of the fastest growing organizations in this section.
