A country barn on Green Acres Farm near Bernice provided the setting on Saturday, January 10, 1998, for the ceremony uniting in marriage Cherry Green and Barry Lockwood of Farmerville.

Dr. Daniel Hall of Bernice performed the double ring ceremony with nuptial music provided by vocalists Joan Atwell and Lee Green and Ms. Atwell also at the accordian.

Inviting guests to sign the bridal registry was Annie Dorris of Sterlinton, 92-year-old aunt of the bride.

Parents of the couple are Travis and Doris Bearden Lockwood of Farmerville and Mary Jo Lee Green of Bernice and the late Virgil “Red” Green.

Given in marriage by her daughters, Jamie and Carmen, the bride wore a dress of blue denim with corduroy trim. Small purple rosettes decorated the collar and buttons and she carried a bouquet of purple rosebuds and baby’s breath.

Attending the bride as matrons of honor were her mother and the mother of the groom.

Mr. Lockwood served his son as best man.

“B. J.”, the couple’s Boston Terrier, was ring bearer and ushers included David Green, Jon Green, Timothy Griffin and Justin Higginbotham.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held inside the barn where relics from the past belonging to family members of the bride and groom were displayed at focal points and antique quilts doubled as table covers and wall-hangings.

Punch, served to guests in fruit jars, was ladled from a galvanized washtub which had been painted purple and inscribed with the names of the bride and groom.

Birdseed bags created from burlap were distributed by Emily and Andy Taylor, Dalton Dumas, Phillip Green, Brandi and Melissa Bower and Bryce and Brock Leonard.

A special guest at the ceremony was KNOE TV personality Louis Redden, who plans to feature the wedding on his segment “Backroads” to be aired January 23 and January 27.

The couple will make their home in Farmerville where the groom is employed with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. The bride is employed at BMA Ouachita Dialysis in West Monroe.
