The Grand Jury adjourned last Tuesday. Fifty-one true bills were returned at this session of that body. Most of these cases are for misdemeanors but there were some bills for serious offenses.
The Court disposed of the following cases since our last issue: State vs. Bob McDonald, charged with assault and battery, pleaded guilty to assault and was sentenced to pay $5 and cost or thirty days in jail.
State vs. Mit Thaxton, pleaded guilty to petit larceny and was sentenced to two and one half months in jail.
State vs. O. B. Holloway, convicted selling hop tea, sentenced to pay $100 and cost or six months in jail.
CIVIL DOCKET
J. J. Slade vs. Mrs. Julia Brandon, judgement of revival for plaintiff for about $400.
Meyer Bros. vs. S. B. Reppond, judgement for plaintiff for about $200 with credits.
Two or three other civil cases were tried and taken under advisement by the Court.
The Grand Jury was in session for about ten days and reported that they had investigate 121 cases and had found 57 true bills; that they had referred 10 cases tot he next session for the reason that they could not get the witnesses before the before them; that they had examined the bonds of all the parish officers and found them in a solvent condition and that the books of the Tax Collector and Treasurer were in good shape. They submitted Treasure O. Baughman’s report which we publish herewith:
